The tooth is, I’d do this every week!

- By MATTHEW HOLT

NEWCASTLE United forward Callum Wilson has insisted he would ‘lose a tooth every week’ to ensure more success at St James’ Park.

The 30-year-old forward was an ever-present threat for Eddie Howe’s side on Monday evening, as the Magpies defeated Arsenal by 2-0.

With the gruesome moment Wilson lost a tooth captured by cameras along the way, the forward bravely battled on until the 94th minute when he was finally withdrawn.

Making his first start for Howe’s side since December after being sidelined through injury, the former Bournemouth man was directly involved in United’s first goal, forcing defender Ben White to put through his own goal.

Taking to social media following the win, Wilson showed his delight despite coming off worse for wear following his 27th minute ordeal.

“How it started vs How it ended.... I’d lose a tooth every week for nights like this. What an atmosphere and what a performance from everyone with 3pts to go with it,” wrote the former Coventry City man.

With Newcastle’s superb rise up the table a particular talking point following the game, the 30-year-old spoke to Sky Sports insisting how quickly things can change.

‘’It was an unbelievable atmosphere. Early on in the season everyone wrote us off and we were relegated by Christmas time. But we’ve dug deep and proved everybody wrong.

‘’I’ve noticed a difference [coming back into the team]. I’m getting a lot more chances and we’re keeping the ball better. I watched Arsenal the other night and I knew their centre-backs had injury problems.

“As a striker I was licking my lips. I’ve worked so hard [to get back to fitness]. When you’re out injured you want to come back and make a difference.’’
