THE People’s Kitchen has launched its annual festive fundraising campaign.

“Feed a Friend for a Fiver” encourages people to donate five pounds to provide a free hot Christmas dinner to someone less fortunate

The People’s Kitchen came from humble beginnings in 1985, handing out soup to disadvantaged people in in Newcastle. In the time since, the demand for their services has dramatically increased.

The volunteers now prepare around 200 meals a day, with Christmas being no exception. The charity relies on the generosity of the public and local businesses and are volunteer-led.

The People’s Kitchen is not just about hot meals, it is where people will sit and listen and provide friendship to those that don’t have anyone else. It can also be an invaluable link to welfare, medical and housing services.

Maggie Pavlou, a trustee of The People’s Kitchen, on Bath Lane, said: “We are providing more meals than ever before, and with the rising cost of living, we need more donations to ensure that we can continue to help those people who are in desperate need.

“We know life is tough for more people this year, so anything you can give will be gratefully received and will make a massive difference to someone less fortunate this Christmas.”

The campaign is also being supported by www.NEoffers.co.uk which is taking donations on their website.

Chris Tubman, from www.NEoffers. co.uk, said: “Christmas is a special time of year where people who are struggling undoubtedly struggle more.

“We’ve pledged to help the People’s Kitchen once again this year and every £5 donated on NEoffers.co.uk will give someone in need a hot meal through the winter.

“With the pandemic and cost of living crisis we have seen how anyone can find themselves in need. We are again relying on the amazing North East community to come together this Christmas.”
