Man is charged with the murder of 49-year-old

A MAN has been charged with murder after a man found injured in a Newcastle home died.

Shortly after 6am on Monday, officers responded to reports of a man injured at a home on Dilston Road in Arthur’s Hill.

Emergency services attended and found a man with serious injuries consistent with having being caused by a blade.

Despite the best efforts of medical staff, 49-year-old Beimnet Gebreab, of Newcastle, died as a result of his injuries and a murder investigat­ion was subsequent­ly launched.

A man was later arrested on suspicion of murder and was brought into police custody.

The man arrested – Yasim Ismael, 38, of Dilston Road, Newcastle – has since been charged with Beimnet’s murder.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before magistrate­s in Newcastle today.

Det Chief Insp Angela Hudson, of Northumbri­a Police, said: “This is a serious incident which has sadly resulted in a man’s death and we are determined to establish exactly what happened.

“Our officers remain in the area to carry out a range of enquiries and offer reassuranc­e to the public.

“Anyone with any concerns is encouraged to speak to them directly. I would also ask that anybody who saw anything in the early hours of this morning in this location or has any informatio­n that may assist our investigat­ion to come forward and let us know.”

On Monday morning, the house, on Dilston Road, was cordoned off by police with one officer standing guard outside. A stretch of nearby Brighton Grove was also taped off with forensics examining the scene and placing down numbered evidence markers.

People living in the area said they did not know what was going on while two local shopkeeper­s said police had been into their stores asking to view CCTV.

Forensics officers later arrived at the property on Dilston Road.

As they entered the home one officer took pictures of the front door and footpath.

At around 11.20am plain clothes detectives arrived at the property.
