Liverpool must win last games, insists skipper

- Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson

LIVERPOOL captain Jordan Henderson says his team will have to win every game from now until the end of the season – including their crunch Premier League showdown with Newcastle United.

The quadruple-chasing Reds face Villarreal in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tonight and then have to prepare for a lunchtime kick-off on Saturday against the Magpies.

After already winning the League Cup, Liverpool will face Chelsea in the FA Cup final next month - but Henderson says they will not take their eye off the ball despite the challenge of competing on so many fronts.

The former Sunderland midfielder underlined they will need their full squad to play a part, suggesting there could be some changes to the starting XI at Newcastle.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has already voiced his displeasure at having to play the early Premier League fixture following his side’s European exertions but, with a strong squad available, he could make several changes without weakening his team.

Henderson for one knows everyone has to step up.

He said ahead of tonight’s game at Anfield: “Motivation for us is just winning. We have to win every game, no matter who it is against. We have to focus on that.

“We don’t get carried away and give everything. It is boring but we have done that all season. What we will do in the next few weeks too.

“The lads have kept improving and the biggest thing is the mentality, the desire to win.

“It is there every game. If we give everything it will give us a great chance to win.

“Yes, a big few weeks coming up but we need to use everyone in the squad and keep the focus.”

Newcastle have won their last six games at St James’ Park and are unbeaten at home in the league since Manchester City’s 4-0 win in mid-december.

They last beat Liverpool on home soil in 2015.
