Opposites attract: Cybill Shepherd and Bruce Willis were the mismatched couple who found themselves falling in love when running a private detective agency in American series Moonlighti­ng. Willis was the last of around 3,000 actors to audition for the role of David Addison Jr and filmed Die Hard while starring on the show.

Having a ball: Lucille Ball and her real-life husband, Cuban-born band leader and singer Desi Arnaz, starred together as Lucy and Ricky Ricardo in 180 episodes of the American comedy series I Love Lucy. Lucille famously said: “Once in his life, every man is entitled to fall madly in love with a gorgeous redhead.”

Love on the cobbles: Hilda and Stan Ogden, played by Jean Alexander and Bernard Youens, were one of Coronation Street’s most enduring couples, appearing on the ITV soap together for 20 years. They met when she fell over him in a blackout in 1943 and they married seven days later.

27 million viewers watched the final episode of BBC sitcom

To The Manor Born, when actress Penelope Keith, as Audrey fforbes-hamilton, finally tied the knot with her wealthy would-be suitor Richard Devere (Peter Bowles).

It’s all good: Richard Briers and Felicity Kendal played Tom and Barbara Good in the BBC’S hugely popular comedy series The Good Life, about a couple who decide to turn their backs on the rat race and turn their garden into a self-sufficient smallholdi­ng. Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip attended the recording of the final episode of the show.

Everybody needs... good TV sweetheart­s: Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan are returning to Neighbours as iconic couple Scott Robinson and Charlene Mitchell. The Aussie soap is going off air this August, after 37 years, with Kylie and Jason reuniting to film a “fairy tale ending”.

Would you Adam and Eve it?

Queen Vic owners Den and Angie Watts (Leslie Grantham and Anita Dobson) had one of television’s most explosive relationsh­ips on BBC soap Eastenders. More than 30 million viewers tuned in to see Dirty Den serve divorce papers on his wife in a Christmas Day shocker in 1986. It has since been voted the best festive TV cliffhange­r of all time.

Great Scott! Terry Scott and Dame June Whitfield starred together in 65 episodes of Terry And June on the BBC. It followed their earlier success as a married couple in Happy Ever After. They also starred as husband and wife in the 1973 film version of Bless This House.

1996

The one where Ross and Rachel...

The roller-coaster relationsh­ip of Jennifer Aniston as Rachel Green and David Schwimmer as Ross Geller kept viewers hooked on US sitcom Friends. The final episode was seen by

52.5 million when it was first shown in America. It saw Ross rushing to the airport to tell Rachel how he felt before she left for a new life in Paris.
