Toon transfer target’s two words give hope of Tyneside switch

-

DOMINIK Szoboszlai has given Newcastle United further encouragement after the Magpies target again refused to commit his future to RB Leipzig.

Newcastle have watched the talented forward extensively and it is easy to see why. Szoboszlai, who already has experience of playing in the Champions League, has been directly involved in 22 goals this season for Leipzig and the Hungary international fits the ‘elite’ profile the Magpies will be targeting as a young player on the continent who can grow with the club.

Newcastle scouts have personally seen Szoboszlai help Leipzig return to Europe’s top table in recent weeks and the composed 22-year-old scored a penalty in Saturday’s 3-1 win against Bayern Munich in the Allianz Arena. However, when asked in the mixed zone if he would stay beyond the end of this season, after Leipzig qualified for the Champions League, Szoboszlai smirked and said: “Next question!” in German.

It comes just a few days after Szoboszlai teased that ‘we will see what happens after the summer’ when asked about his future at the Bundesliga giants. Szoboszlai also liked a post on Instagram this week which stated Newcastle were a win away from Champions League qualification. However, Leipzig boss Marco Rose was undeterred by the speculation.

“Dominik Szoboszlai has developed excellently in Leipzig and knows what he brings to the team and our game,” he told reporters before the win against Bayern Munich. “The most important thing is that he focuses on the last three games. We have Bayern, Schalke and the cup final. That’s where the focus has to be.”
