FAST food is a £15bn industry, with £1.4m spent on takeaways every week in Britain. It may not be good for us, but we can’t get enough.

In this series, Hustle actor, TV presenter and Celebrity Masterchef winner Alexis Conran immerses himself behind the scenes of our most popular takeaways.

Lifting the lid on the secret recipes, he then tries to recreate them, offering hacks and tips so that we can do the same – although Deliveroo seems much easier.

First on the menu are burgers, with some insights from the brains behind super-successful chain Honest Burgers.

There’s a slice of kitchen science on getting the best from your beef patties.

To wash it all down, he also recruits a kitchen scientist to see if he can crack the secrets of the perfect cola.

Sushi is next, as Alexis sends two of his taste testers, Natalie and Conor, off to find out more about wasabi, before trying to make their own perfect sushi at home.

Then Alexis calls in the experts to reveal the secrets behind the perfect tikka masala.

He suspects it’s all in the marinade, but he also has a few tips of his own on how to use everyday kitchen kit to get that restaurant flavour.

Each week Alexis also looks into some sure-fire future hits in the fast food market – this time it’s that well-known hearty fusion of Mexican and er… Yorkshire.
