Town prove two good for Boldon boys
TOW Law Town moved to within 90 minutes of promotion into Division One of the Ebac
Northern League with a 2-0 win at Boldon CA last night.
The hosts were looking to round off a dream first season as a Northern League club after securing third place and home advantage for the play-off semifinal.
However, the scoring touch which has laid the foundations for a successful campaign evaded David Crumbie’s side as it put in a below-par performance at the Villa.
The visitors made the brighter start and edged themselves in front just before the quarter-hour mark when Aaron Hardy rounded off a neat passing move which cut open the hosts.
A killer second goal did not arrive until ten minutes from time when Joel Pearson nearly converted from just inside the area to end any doubt over the result.
The full-time brought jubilant celebrations from the travelling support who will now hope to see their side secure a return to the top tier after a ten-year absence.
The Lawyers will now face either Heaton Stannington or Easington Colliery in the decider on Saturday.
They face each other at the Stan’s Grounsell Park tonight (7.30 kick-off).
■■KIEFFER Moore came off the bench to score a £120million goal and fire Bournemouth back into the Premier League thanks to a 1-0 Championship victory at home to automatic-promotion rivals Nottingham Forest.
Substitute Moore settled a tension-filled game with a neat finish from a superbly-worked free-kick to seal second place for Scott Parker’s men after two years in the second tier of English football.
Forest, who needed a win to leapfrog the Cherries in the table, will now have to try to end their 23-year top-flight exile via the play-offs.
■■BURNLEY striker Jay Rodriguez has signed a new two-year deal with the Premier League club.
Rodriguez, 32, who was born in Burnley and whose previous contract was set to expire in June, has scored two goals in 29 league appearances for the Clarets this season.
