Newcastle ‘would be Macnificent club for Dom’

-

FORMER Scotland international Frank Mcavennie reckons Dominic Calvert-lewin should opt to join Newcastle United over Champions League-chasing Arsenal this summer should he leave Merseyside.

The Everton striker has endured an injury-hit campaign, scoring just three times in the Premier League this season.

Last season, the 25-year-old was one of the top scorers in the league, bagging himself 16 goals. With the Toffees in a relegation battle at the moment, Calvert-lewin could be available at a cut-rate price for a team willing to bank on this season being a one-off.

The Toffees might have to sell either one of Calvert-lewin or Richarlison if they want to generate funds to improve their squad.

Mcavennie believes Newcastle would prove to be a much more promising move for the England international than North London.

He said: “I am not sure why you would go to Arsenal instead of Newcastle.

“They will not be far off each other soon and only one of those clubs is on the up in my opinion.

“Calvert-lewin needs to prove his fitness before he thinks about moving on but I think him leaving is nailed on. ”
