Ferdie raving about United target Doku

-

NEWCASTLE United target Jeremy Doku has been labelled a better player than Barcelona sensation Adama Traore.

As reported by the Chronicle in February, the Magpies are weighing up a move for the Stade Rennais winger this summer.

Doku - who has 10 caps for Belgium - has suffered from injuries this season but remains one of Europe’s most promising young talents.

A £22million transfer fee has been mooted for the 19-year-old.

He is under contract until 2025, which means the French club can command a sizable fee.

An interesting side note is how Doku played under ex-newcastle striker Craig Bellamy for Anderlecht’s youth side.

The Welshman called his former protege ‘difficult’ to work with but insisted any manager who can get him on board would have a serious

talent on their hands. A quick, explosive winger who can play on either side, Doku’s experience for such a tender age would add a unique dynamic to Eddie Howe’s squad, especially with Allan Saintmaximin occupying the opposite flank.

Former West Ham and Sunderland defender Anton Ferdinand has also been raving about the Belgian whizz-kid drawing comparisons to Wolves’ loaned-out star Traore.

He said: “I would say Doku has a better end product than Traore.

“You can see why the Belgium national team loves him and Romelu Lukaku loves to play alongside him.

“He is direct, whippy, puts the ball in the box and puts the ball in great areas.

“Doku is precise, which is hard to do at the pace he runs at.

“You know what I like about him more than anything? He knows what he is good at. As a defender, defending pace is the hardest.”
