Big Al’s text a Shear joy, says Bruno

BRUNO Guimaraes has spoken of his delight after receiving a text message from Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer just hours after signing for the club.

The club’s all-time top scorer and England legend contacted the Brazilian to offer him a warm welcome in January following his £33.5million move from Lyon.

The midfielder has since wooed supporters with four goals in his first few starts for the Magpies, including an audacious backheeled volley on his full debut at Southampton.

Guimaraes said: “When I signed with Newcastle, on the first day he had already followed me on Twitter and texted me good luck.

“Shearer is a legend, Newcastle’s top scorer, without a doubt the greatest player, so for me it is gratifying.

“He followed me on Twitter, I followed him back, sometimes we exchanged messages. Having the support of the main name of the club gives you more confidence.”

Guimaraes has a goal every other game average in his first eight starts for the Magpies plus one assist.
