Motorcyclist seriously injured after hitting safety barrier

A MOTORCYCLIST has been seriously injured following a collision with a barrier on the A1.

Emergency crews were called to the incident on the A1 northbound near the slip road with the A194 at Washington following reports of a one-vehicle collision shortly before 2.30pm yesterday. A man was found to have crashed into a barrier and had come off his bike. He suffered serious but not lifethreatening injuries and was taken to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary.

A lane was closed on the A1(M) northbound from the A195 to the Western Bypass while emergency crews were at the scene. A spokesperson for Northumbria

Police said: “Shortly before 2.30pm we were made aware of a one-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle on the A1 northbound near the slip road with the A194.

“It was reported a male rider has collided with the barrier and come off his bike, sustaining serious but non-life-threatening injuries.”
