What did a batch look like? Use your loaf

-

WHEN I first came to the North East from deep south in the 1950s, my mother-in-law asked

me to go to the local bakery to buy a batch. This has recently come to mind and I am trying to remember what a batch actually looked like.

I have a feeling it might be what we call that great Greggs re-introduction, the stottie. Am I right or a meringue?
