Please curb your speed for safety

-

WE would like to thank those people who voted to elect Michelle Fox to join us as a Labour councillor for Weetslade Ward. Our weekly and monthly surgeries will continue in the John Willie Sams Centre, Chapelville and Wideopen Library but we would like help please with one of the issues raised whilst knocking on doors.

Residents who live in the streets around Hazlewood, Greenfields and Fordley Primary Schools are concerned for the safety of children and other residents from speeding, and the indiscriminate and inconsiderate parking by some parents when dropping off or collecting their children from school.

Pavements are blocked so that pedestrians cannot get through and have to divert to the road, double yellow lines and dropped kerbs are ignored and cars left on corners blocking sight lines. The council does have camera cars and will fine offending car drivers, but residents would prefer fewer slower cars and not to fear there is an accident waiting to happen.

It would be an absolute tragedy if a child or an adult was knocked down, so we are asking please for all parents who drive their children to any of these

schools to listen to the concerns of nearby residents, please don’t speed or obstruct and keep everyone safer especially the Children.

COUN MURIEL GREEN AND COUN ANTHONY MCMULLEN, Weetslade Ward, North Tyneside Council
