Black Cats have asked for more tickets to fulfil Wembley demand

SUNDERLAND have requested more tickets for this weekend’s League One play-off final after selling out their entire allocation of almost 44,000.

The Black Cats were initially given 37,480 tickets for the showpiece clash against Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday, and were subsequently granted an additional 6,480 tickets last Friday, taking the total to 43,960.

But the club yesterday confirmed that all tickets – including that additional allocation – have now sold out.

Demand is still high on Wearside and Sunderland have approached the EFL and Wembley Stadium to ask for more tickets, although it is unclear at this stage whether that request will be granted.

Wycombe were initially given 19,025 tickets and, according to the Chairboys’ website, they were close to selling out last night.

They have also requested more tickets and are likely to be granted an additional number.

Wycombe had originally said they were hoping to generate enough demand to take 28,000 fans to Wembley, and if they are given that many tickets – and manage to sell them – that would still only make for a total attendance of 71,960 in a ground that hosted a crowd of just short of 85,000 for Saturday’s FA Cup final between Liverpool and Chelsea.
