Happy to hear it’s OK to ignore rules

-

A FEW years ago my wife and I signed an agreement with our bank.

They would lend us money so that we could buy a house. In return, we agreed to repay that loan in instalments. We knew that the agreement allowed the

bank to increase or decrease the interest rate and, therefore, the amount which we would have to pay every month. We knew what we were agreeing to.

Imagine, then, my surprise a few days ago when we received a letter from the bank saying that the interest rate and, therefore, the monthly repayment was to go up. Surely it is unfair that the bank should interpret the mortgage in this way.

We had not expected them to take such a legalistic approach and actually expect that we would honour our side of the agreement.

However, thanks to Boris Johnson and Liz Truss, we have been shown a way to avoid having to pay.

We declare that we are going to unilaterally override the bits of the mortgage document which we do not like (the bit about having to repay it for instance) and will pay what we want to pay, or not at all, rather than what we agreed to pay.

So, thank you Boris and

Liz. We shall follow your fine example.
