Lyons roar to another crucial win

HETTON Lyons continued their domination at the top of the Premier Division table with a three-wicket win at Tynemouth.

The Lyons put their hosts in to bat first and Tynemouth made a good start, Ben Debnam hitting 54, Stuart Poynter 70 and Esam Rahman 37 to take them to 240 all out in 49 overs.

Aaron Feroz was the pick of the Hetton bowlers with 4-45.

Ben Mckinney hit 63 from 71 balls, including eight fours, and Chris Martin added 40 from 50 balls to guide the Wearsiders to 242-7 in 46.1 overs.

Andrew Smith recorded the top bowling figures of 3-44.

Felling enjoyed a 75-run victory over visitors Eppleton to keep themselves chasing at the heels of the Lyons, while Eppleton remain bottom of the table without a win so far this season.

The home team were put in to bat first and in their 49.4 overs were all out for 243.

In reply, Eppleton struggled to 168 all out in 36 overs, Sebastian Allison taking 5-30 from his ten overs.

Newcastle sealed a five-wicket win over neighbours Benwell Hill.

The Hill opted to bat first and posted a modest 153-9.

Newcastle steadily built a winning score of 157-5 in 27 overs.

South North travelled to Burnmoor and came away with a nine-wicket win.

Burnmoor put themselves in to bat first but their batsmen struggled to put a total together, only Josh Coughlin contributi­ng anything of note with 31 from 32 balls as the innings ended on a disappoint­ing 80 all out - Oliver Mcgee with 4-16.

South North only took 11 overs to reach their target.

Whitburn posted a score of 297-7 against Sunderland.

Former Durham batsman Jack Burnham hit a fantastic 117 in 104 minutes from 83 balls, including seven fours and ten sixes.

He received good support from Ross Richardson with 62 (including four fours) and Gareth Welsh 43 (including six fours and one six). Kieran Waterson, Micky Allan and Ross Whitfield Jnr took two wickets apiece.

Sunderland could only register 263-9 from their 50 overs despite Daniel Shurben’s 60 from 60 balls, including eight fours and three sixes, and 69 from Micky Allan.
