Victors Mounting A very strong title bid
MOUNT A moved into an unassailable position at the top of Division One of the Northumbria Summer League with a 8-2 victory over Old England.
Dave Robson was player of the match with three wins, Jamie Dent and Steve Penman claiming two victories each.
Old England’s Neil Herrington won his games against Dent and Penman, the latter a close five-end clash.
In their second fixture of the week Old England lost 7-3 to Cramlington Casuals.
Cramlington’s James Bradbury and Nigel Rodgers both captured three games and combined to take the doubles.
The Casuals also had two games in the week but lost the second 8-2 to St Chads.
Josh and Keith Weatherby were both in good form in winning their three games, Charlotte Weatherby triumphing once.
Bottom-placed Mount B recorded their first victory of the season with a 6-4 success over
Prudhoe. Dave Cutler and Karen Henry both won two games and paired up to claim the doubles, Alan Livingstone adding a win over John Henderson in a close five-end match to secure the victory.
IN Division Two, Brandon Anacondas took the opportunity to open up a gap at the top with a 7-3 success against second-placed Tyneside.
Tyneside’s Mark Kimberley was player of the match despite being on the losing team - winning his three games.
However, the Brandon team of Steve Pattinson, Jamie Westwater and Ian Richardson beat Tyneside’s Chas Robertson and Daniel Foster.
The match between Durham City Scorpions and NECA, who are chasing the top two teams, ended in a 5-5 draw.
The Scorpions had taken a 4-1 lead with victories for Ian Mcallister and Jon Mawson in the singles and doubles but in the second half of the match NECA took four games to secure the draw.
Despite only going into the match against Mount C with two players Cramlington Swifts were able to secure a 6-4 verdict.
Rob Lee prevailed in his three games against John Rowell, Dave Swan and Michael Hope.
Sam Nair added two wins and the pair captured the doubles.
BRANDON Bravehearts opened up a significant gap at the top of the Division Three table with a 10-0 result against Backspin A.
Second-placed players Cramlington Tigers lost 7-3 to Brandon Fusion while the clash between Stocksfield A and Backspin A ended in a 5-5 draw.
