Spartans and Mitchell part ways
BLYTH Spartans have confirmed they have parted company with manager Terry Mitchell.
The former Consett boss was named as successor to Michael Nelson in November last year and helped the Croft Park club fight a successful battle against relegation from the National League North.
Mitchell also delivered silverware in the form of the Northumberland Senior Cup after his side claimed a 3-2 win over Newcastle United Under-23s in May.
After a challenging summer in the transfer market and the departure of assistant manager Graeme Coulson, Spartans kicked off their National League North season with a dogged and determined display in a 1-0 defeat against title contenders Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday.
Speaking in the aftermath of that defeat, Mitchell praised his side for their performance and revealed his determination to add further new faces to his squad over the coming weeks.
Speaking to the club website, he said: “I said to the lads well done, great attitude, great effort.
“We are disappointed to lose, and I think we deserved a point, that’s my reflection on it.”
However, there will be a new face in the dugout when Spartans make the long trip to Kings Lynn Town this coming weekend after Mitchell’s departure was confirmed in a statement released on the club website on Tuesday afternoon.

Terry for his efforts – namely last season’s successful battle against relegation as well as our victory in the Northumberland Senior Cup – and wish him the very best for the future.
“The club will be making no further comment at this time.”
