UTS’S Trophy run is Dun and dusted

- By MARK CARRUTHERS

DUNSTON UTS assistant manager Jon Mcdonald praised his side for a hearty performance in their FA Trophy exit at the hands of in-form Coalville Town.

The visitors arrived at the UTS Stadium as firm favourites to progress against a depleted Dunston – but were given a severe test by Chris Swailes’ men.

A Will Jenkins equaliser was not enough for Dunston as two goals from striker Ash Chambers and a Tendai Chitiza opener put the Ravens into today’s second round draw.

After the game, Mcdonald said: “First and foremost, I thought it was a really good cup tie between two good sides.

“We were depleted, we had six or seven players out but I still thought we played really well.

“Fair play to Coalville, they have real quality at the top end of the pitch and I think that has decided the outcome of the game.

“They punished us by taking chances and hitting us on the break.”

South Shields saw their hopes of an extended run in the FA Trophy ended by Northern Premier League Premier Division rivals Warrington Town.

The two sides have become familiar foes over the last three years and the Yellows racked up another win over the Mariners with a 3-1 triumph at Cantilever Park.

Lewis Allessandra got Kevin Phillips’ side back in the game with a goal just before halftime after Tom Hannigan and Connor Woods put their hosts in control.

However, any hopes of completing the comeback were ended when Woods grabbed his second of the day to leave South Shields to focus on next weekend’s FA Cup first round tie against Forest Green Rovers.

STOCKTON Town enjoyed a double boost at the top of Northern Premier League East as they claimed the points at Brighouse Town and saw nearest rivals Hebburn Town fall to a defeat against Long Eaton United.

Amar Purewal netted for the Hornets but they were beaten 4-1 by Long Eaton thanks to goals from Jack Rogers, Micah Jebbison, Jamie Walker and Alex Marshall.

Consett drew 1-1 at Ossett United as an own goal from Danny South cancelled out an opener from hosts’ striker Luke Aldrich.

First-half goals from Alex Paterson and Reece Fielding condemned North Shields to a 2-0 defeat at Sheffield and Shildon were held to a home draw by Lincoln United.
