NORTHUMBERLAND’S biggest beer festival is set to return this month for the 22nd time, with this year’s the longest event yet.

The Tynedale Beer and Cider Festival will be held for four days from June 15 to 18 and is one of the highlights of summer in the Tyne Valley.

This year, more than 120 beers will be on offer, all checked by local CAMRA officials, while there will also be a large range of traditional ciders and perry, as well as wine, prosecco, gin and rum.

The festival has come a long way since starting in 2002, with the aim of raising funds for good causes in the region and the Tynedale Rugby Club. Now, it attracts thousands of visitors to Tynedale Park in Corbridge

for a weekend of beer, cider, music and more.

In two decades, the event has raised more than £900,000 for Tynedale Rugby Football Club and Tynedale Lions Club, with organisers cautiously optimistic that this year will break the £1m mark.

To entice more visitors, there’ll be rugby, street food, a family-friendly afternoon on Saturday, June 17, and of course, live music. This year 15

acts will take to the stage covering punk, soul, folk, rock and more.

The Big Gig, a showcase competition for local talent aged 18 and under, is also on, with several bands and acts being coached and supported by Katy Trigger of Maximo Park and Core Music in Hexham.

Ian Cave, chair of the Tynedale Beer and Cider Festival Committee, said: “After 22 years, we are delighted to still be producing this amazing,

volunteer-run festival to the very high standard that we do. Every year it gets a little bit better and 2023 is no exception. For the first time, the festival is happening over four days and we have a fantastic range of beers, ciders and other drinks plus some top-class entertainment, family fun day on Saturday and of course, some rugby! It’s a great day out for all.”
