Silva warns players ahead of Toon visit

- By STUART JAMIESON

FULHAM manager Marco Silva has warned his side they cannot afford a repeat performance of Tuesday night’s 3-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest when Newcastle United come to Craven Cottage tomorrow.

The Cottagers boss made three substitutions after just 33 minutes in midweek but could not prevent his side from slipping to a heavy defeat, which came just days after they had to fight back to earn a draw with basement side Sheffield United.

Fulham found themselves three goals down by half-time at the City Ground thanks to goals from Callum Hudson-odoi, former Newcastle striker Chris Wood and Morgan Gibbs-white, before Tosin Adarabioyo’s header pulled one back,

Silva blasted the way his side started the game and, with Eddie Howe’s Magpies in town tomorrow, warned they will continue to get punished if they show a similar attitude again. c

season over Fulham, following a 3-0 Premier League win at St James’ Park and January’s 2-0 FA Cup victory at Craven Cottage.

“Bad performance, disappointing evening for us, really disappointing result,” Silva said in midweek.

“When you don’t start the game the way you should of course you are going to get punished.

“In the first half we didn’t play, we were there but we didn’t play. We weren’t there, we didn’t do what we planned, we were so, so slow.

“We were not aggressive, the will was not there and this is the first time since this long journey started in 2021 that this has happened.

“Football is to play from the first minute not just the second half. When I made the triple change, at that moment the team needed much more changes than three.

“Overall we were not playing, as a collective we were not there.”
