Keep momentum going, urges Dunston boss ahead of clash

-

JON Mcdonald has called on Dunston UTS to continue building momentum in their bid for promotion into the Northern Premier League Premier Division.

Despite being forced to play home games away from the UTS Stadium in recent months, Dunston sit second in the East Division table ahead of tonight’s meeting with Sheffield.

Ahead of the game, which will be held at Morpeth Town’s Craik Park, Mcdonald urged his players to continue the sort of form that led them to a comfortable win against Grimsby Borough at the weekend.

He told The Chronicle: “The lads were exceptional and to give some perspective, that’s eight games we’ve played away from home, consecutively, so to be second in the division is testament to the mentality of the players.

“We have to give credit to Grimsby Borough because they’re a good side and caused us some problems in the second half – but I thought we showed some steel and ruthlessness at key points in the game. However, our full focus is now on Tuesday’s game because it is vital that we continue building momentum.”

Elsewhere tonight, Hebburn Town will hope to take advantage of any

Dunston slip-ups when Daniel Moore’s side visit Carlton Town.

The Hornets are one point and one place behind their former Northern League rivals and also have the benefit of holding a game in hand on Mcdonald’s side.

The game kicks off a run of six games in 18 days for the Hornets and they can still overhaul leaders Stockton Town if they take maximum points from those fixtures.

Manager Moore admitted such a return would be difficult to secure but admitted his players are in a confident mood ahead of the run-in.

He said: “It’s going to be hard to win every single one but we are up for the challenge and we are in good form. The momentum is with us so whether that takes us on to finish top, you never know.

“The turnaround has been fantastic and every team has a spell when they aren’t great. We kept ticking those points over and we are now playing really well and we are confident.”
