NEWCASTLE United have a big decision to make this summer as youngster Yankuba Minteh admits he would like to continue his spell at Feyenoord into next season.

The Gambian international, 19, stole the show as his side humiliated rivals Ajax 6-0 in the Eredivisie on Sunday, helping himself to two goals and an assist in De Klassieker. Minteh, due back on Tyneside in the summer, is beginning to catch the eye after a slow start to his spell in the Netherlands.

Newcastle fans are starting to ponder whether they will see the teenage sensation in the north east next season, with many hoping Minteh is given a chance to showcase his talent in Eddie Howe’s side.

Asked about his plans for next season following his fine Feyenoord display, the attacker admits he wouldn’t be against a loan extension – but the decision ultimately lies with the Magpies.

“My focus is here. I am a Newcastle player, but at the moment I play for Feyenoord,” Minteh told ESPN.

“Would I like to play for Feyenoord next season? I don’t know. Feyenoord are a great club and if I get the opportunity, I would like to stay, but it depends on Newcastle United’s decision.”

Newcastle and Feyenoord will hold talks over Minteh’s future this month to decide whether his stay in the Eredivisie is extended. Feyenoord boss Arne Slot, who has handed the winger 32 appearances this season, is keen to keep Minteh on the books for another season.

Minteh arrived at Newcastle last summer, joining from Danish side Odense. However, before the player had even touched down on Tyneside, he was whisked off to Feyenoord to gain experience at a high level. Departing Dan

Ashworth played a key role in the deal, while loan chief Shola Ameobi has made regular trips to Rotterdam to check in on Minteh’s progress.

Miguel Almiron and Jacob Murphy continue to do battle for a starting role on Newcastle’s rightwing when both fit. Come next season, Howe may believe Minteh has done enough to muscle his way into the conversation to save his side splashing out in that position.
