Schar hits out and a fresh blow for Tino

FABIAN Schar looked furious after Newcastle United conceded a second goal and was then forced to watch Joachim Andersen try to milk things as Crystal Palace sealed a 2-0 win.

Schar was so incensed he tried to shove the Palace player, and former Newcastle target, back into his own half as he tried to delay the game. The Switzerland international’s mood had hardly improved as he faced the TV cameras to try to sum up the poor display in the capital.

Schar told NUFC TV: “From start to finish it was not good. It is not acceptable the way we played. As a team we must learn from it and be much better. The support is always there we know that.

“We will leave our hearts on the pitch every game. We know what is still possible this season, we won’t achieve certain things. We have to do better. But we still as a club have a chance for everything, we have to learn and do better.”

Newcastle dealt fresh blow with Tino Livramento

The signs were good when Tino Livramento and Callum Wilson stepped off the bus at Selhurst Park before being named on the bench. But it emerged that Wilson was in the early stages of his comeback from a chest injury and a 25-minute run-out showed exactly that.

Howe described Livramento’s appearance as substitute as simply an “emergency” and it is unclear if he will feature against Sheffield United. After the game Howe said: “Tino is still struggling with his ankle That’s why he didn’t come onto the pitch. He was there for an emergency, really. Can he play at the weekend? I’m not sure. We certainly don’t want to give him a longer-term problem. He’s technically fit enough to be able to enter the pitch, but it’s sort of high risk.

“We want to make sure we don’t give him a longer-term problem, but ... it probably depends on what other players I have available.”

Away form has been a big problem this season

When Newcastle hammered Sheffield United 8-0 away back in September, the Magpies looked unstoppable. But the truth is their form on the road is hurting them and that is what has cost them a Champions League place.

United are now mathematically unable to repeat what they achieved last term and the loss at Palace was the 10th on the road. This was also the eighth loss from the last 11 away from home and just 14 points have been banked.

The worrying thing is that three of the last five matches are away from St James’ Park and both Burnley and Man United have something to play for.
