Woman arrested over suspected arson attack
A WOMAN is being questioned over a suspected arson attack.
Emergency services were called to a home, in Bensham, Gateshead, during the early hours of yesterday morning.
One person was in the property at the time.
They escaped uninjured but were treated by paramedics at the scene as a precaution.
Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service alerted Northumbria Police.
Officers are now treating the fire as ‘suspicious’.
A 66-year-old woman has been arrested and is currently in police custody being questioned on suspicion of arson.
Speaking yesterday, Northumbria Police spokesman said: “At around 2.15am this morning police received a report from Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service that they were in attendance at a house fire on Windsor Avenue in Gateshead.
“Police attended to support firefighters in their operation and the fire was later extinguished.”
