FOUR North East girls will play for the England Schools FA’s girls’ under-15 squad next year after successfully coming through a final trial.

Northumberland’s Rebecca Ferguson, Georgina Spraggon and Ella Wilson and Durham’s Rebecca Bell were among 18 players selected from the trial, held at Stafford Town’s Evans Park on Sunday.

The girls, who were first nominated for the trials by their own counties, will now have the opportunity to represent England in the forthcoming girls’ international programme, which includes the SAFIB Bob Docherty Cup in Salou, Spain in April.

They will also enjoy a week of warmweather training in February. ■■NEWCASTLE Under-15 Girls begin their preparation for the season when they hold their first trial on Tuesday at Kenton School (4.15-6.00).

New management duo Matt Lawn and Rachel McIntyre hope for a large turnout from the city’s schools.
