Let’s go back to year 2000

The Chronicle - - What’s On - By SIMON DUKE

IF your peak period for partying up a storm in Newcastle was the turn of the millennium you’re in luck as one of the city’s most famous club nights of that era is back... for one night only!

Long before the likes of Dirtiz, Skint and Digi Mondays had thousands of revellers queuing round the block, Promise and Shindig were absolutely huge nights at Newcastle nightspot Foundation.

And Promise will be making a return for a one-off charity event in a new home of Digital in Times Square on Friday, January 18.

Rewind to the turn of the century and their Promise and Shindig events were the stuff of legend amongst Geordie clubbers.

Well now the pair are reuniting for a night of pure nostalgia at Digital, in aid of Great North Children’s Hospital.

Richard, who is also Director of Lintz Hall Farm and one of the team who created the North East’s biggest Halloween scare event Psycho Path explained “I have supported the children’s hospital for a few years now, so when the opportunity arose to put another Promise event on, it made sense for me to combine the two.

“After all many of the people who remember Promise or Shindig and indeed Foundation nightclub will be parents like me now, so I thought it an ideal opportunity to get those dancing shoes on, have fun and raise some money in the process!”

“When Promise was based at Foundation in Newcastle we used to host the Friday nights. Scott and Shindig took centre stage on the Saturday and those were fantastic weekends for clubbers on Tyneside.

“Those were crazy days!

“At the time I didn’t realise just how special those nights were, week after week playing alongside the biggest DJs and the crowds were always amazing.

“The connection everyone had was unique. Promise became more of a big family than a club event and I am still very good friends with many of the regulars. I even met my wife there!

Scott added “Whether you went to the original Riverside or when it became Foundation, the Shindig and Promise nights were synonymous with quality DJs, quality music and a quality atmosphere. This reunion event will be something very special for those clubbers who were lucky enough to experience the vibe back then, and for those that missed out, it’s the perfect opportunity to see why this venue and these events become so legendary.” Promise Returns will see Richard Tulip playing a 6 hour vinyl classics set in room one, while Scott Bradford spins some Foundation Classics in room two, alongside Tony Hutchinson and Lee Willow.
