Help urged following influx of patients
DUE TO AN influx of thousands of patients in South Sudan’s Maban County, Samaritan’s Purse is asking for immediate help. The charity is in desperate need of funds and surgeons at Bunj Hospital, the only medical centre in Maban.
The centre recently added a new ward and operating theatre.
While the centre is doing all they can, Chris Blackham, Samaritan’s Purse UK’s Head of Programmes and Projects, is concerned with aiding all of the patients, “The hospital is beyond maximum capacity every day.”
“We work 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We are really overwhelmed with the situation,” said Dr Atar, the only fulltime physician in Maban. “We are the only ones here to help them, and we are the only witness for Christ among these people. Here, we do just a little to help, but God is with us. We can’t do anything by ourselves.”
Blackham has seen the tragic conditions these people have suffered, both patients and doctors, “Every day around 100 people are being treated, each one of these with a life-changing story, the most significant part of which is the fact they are now alive and well thanks to Dr Atar and his team.”
He said he is grateful for God handing them strength to help each victim.
The charity also provides food, shelter, water and healthcare for more than 45,000 people at the Doro refugee camp. Out of a population of more than 200,000, Maban County has over 110,000 refugees.
Samaritan’s Purse serves as an international relief that provides “the love of God” for 18 countries.
