DIVORCE rates have hit a 30-year low, with couples reportedly learning to work through the so-called ‘seven year itch’.

Divorce was at its peak in 1991, but those who married in 2007 were 35 per cent more likely to stick out the first seven years than those who married in the divorce boom.

The Marriage Foundation think tank says the key to this change is men being more committed to marriage for reasons other than just ‘doing the right thing’, and fewer women now filing for divorce.

Harry Benson of the think tank said: “We’re seeing the strengthening of marriage over time.”
