COLLEGE STREET SW1
LIE
According to a new poll, girls are more likely to do this than boys. Pretending you are hitting the town when you are really in your pyjamas was a common one that the research found tweeting ladies guilty of. While you may not go to this extreme, have you perhaps embellished the truth to make your day seem a little more glamorous? It is time we stop. To paraphrase many wise people: “If you haven’t got anything true to tweet, don’t tweet at all.” Think of all the things you could get done if you weren’t glued to your phone? Perhaps it’s time we saved those updates for occasions that really warrants a #humblebrag.
POSE
A friend of mine (honestly, I’m not just talking about myself) has a whole album on her phone of selfies. Huge chunks of this collection are her on the same day, same outfits, but in different poses. As Christians, shouldn’t we be using our time more wisely than admiring our own reflection? Probably. But it’s a trend. It’s fun. So long as we don’t become obsessed with our own image, I think God will forgive us the odd selfie. But today, why not take a picture of something else you want the world to see, something you thank God for. However pretty your face is, the world needs to see God’s goodness more.
STALK
Hands up who else has lost whole hours to perusing their Facebook and Twitter accounts, checking up on people we haven’t seen for years and probably wouldn’t stop to chat to in the street? I am sure I’m not alone. We waste so much of our time comparing our lives to others. And what for? Most of the time, it leaves us unsatisfied with our own existence; WE haven’t got that upgrade from British Airways, WE can’t afford that new watch and however hard we try, OUR hair won’t do that. Let’s give ourselves a break, cut ourselves some slack. Can you limit yourself to 10 minutes a day on each account? Or try to only log on when you get a notification? Use the time you save to call a REAL friend. It will make you feel a lot happier than the online ones.
