St Nicholas’ Cathedral is celebrating Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II becoming the longest reigning British Monarch, with Evensong on 9 September. The Lord-Lieutenant of Tyne and Wear, Mrs Susan M Winfield OBE will attend the service celebrating the Queen’s 63-year reign.

Dean of Newcastle, the Very Rev Christopher Dalliston, said: “This is a truly wonderful occasion and I think it is important that we celebrate it here in the North East.”
