Sir, Your leader ,4 September, raises two important issues that evangelica­ls have to address.

Firstly, as you say, ‘that separating human sexuality into a gay or straight binar y taxonomy is almost certainly far too simplistic’. It may be far too simplistic but the fact is that many people are straight, many are gay, and we should acknowledg­e that.

However, I believe you are right to point out that the vast majority are somewhere on the spectrum. And if that is true, then conser vatives who tr y to dismiss those on that spectrum are being disingenuo­us. Perhaps it is time for all conser vative evangelica­ls to acknowledg­e that most people are all somewhere on that spectrum (including themselves) and end this mood of intoleranc­e.

It is not just Stonewall who are signed up to what you call a binar y taxonomy.
