Twenty-one Bishops descended on South Yorkshire last weekend to share in a four-day mission. The Bishops including the Archbishop of York, the Bishop of Sheffield, the Bishop of Doncaster, Bishop Libby Lane of Stockport, Bishop Philip North of Burnley and Bishop Alison White of Hull. The 21 Bishops led community events, including a heritage day at Sheffield Cathedral, Messy Church at the Penistone and Rotherham Shows, school visits, a brewery tour, ‘pints of view’ pub-based question evenings, open-air worship opportunities, and business breakfasts.

* All Saints Church in Middlesbrough hosted a 24-hour prayer vigil on Friday for persecuted people in Iraq and Syria. The Bishop of Whitby, the Rt Rev Paul Ferguson, said: “We’ve all been moved by devastating images of loss on television or in our newspapers. In our area we have a strong tradition of being concerned for refugees and people in trouble. Praying for people affected by violence and persecution is something we can do, as well as take practical action, as we try to reflect the love of God in these troubled times.”
