A churchgoer is planning to run the equivalent distance between Yorkshire and the Grand Canyon over the next five years.
Andy Wright, from St John the Baptist Church in Kirkheaton, is planning to undertake the marathon challenge to raise funds for the Kirkheaton Hospice.
He will run an average of over 80 miles each month over the whole 60-month period and hopes to raise a quarter of a million pounds.
His first event will be the Yorkshire Marathon in October. That will net him 26.2 miles out of his planned 5,000.
He said: “I work full time, I’m 48 years old (I’ll be nearly 54 when this challenge is over), and I have a wife and two teenage daughters.
“Even though life is busy, I’m pledging to run an average of 20 miles per week for the next five years to help raise vital funds for my local Hospice.”
The Rev Richard Steel, Rector of Kirkheaton, said: “What Andy is doing makes ‘Marathon effort’ sound small scale!”
