Elec­tion of bishop can­celled

THE PRI­MATE of the Angli­can Church of Kenya, the Most Rev Eliud Wabukala, has can­celled the elec­tion of a bishop for the Dio­cese of Mount Kenya Cen­tral af­ter com­plaints were lodged of elec­toral ir­reg­u­lar­i­ties.

On 7 Septem­ber Arch­bishop Wabukala pro­rogued the elec­tion of a new bishop to suc­ceed the Rt Rev Isaac Ng’ang’a, who is re­tir­ing in Oc­to­ber af­ter 15 years of ser­vice.

Eleven can­di­dates had been put for­ward for con­sid­er­a­tion by a panel un­der the su­per­vi­sion of the arch­bishop’s of­fice, who se­lected three can­di­dates to con­test the 12 Septem­ber elec­tion.

Ac­cord­ing to sources in Kenya, some mem­bers of the dio­cese had writ­ten to the arch­bishop com­plain­ing of im­proper con­duct, prompt­ing the arch­bishop to in­ter­vene.

No date has been set for the new elec­tion.
