Diocese of Worcester
The Very Rev Peter Atkinson, Dean of Worcester, will be undertaking a sponsored cycle ride of 1,000km in Normandy in support of The Friends of the Cathedral. The Dean will follow the route taken in 1897 by a famous English clergyman, Percy Dearmer.
For every kilometre sponsored it is hoped to recruit a new Friend. For £10 sponsorship per kilometre there will be a year’s free membership of the Friends.
It is hoped to raise £10,000 and this money will contribute towards the repair of the Edgar Tower, first built by King John. It was the gatehouse to his castle and was the monastic entrance of Worcester Cathedral Priory.
The Tower is currently being repaired at a cost of nearly £500,000.
