The Classic Motorcycle

Vincent in Vegas

-

The 30th annual Mecum vintage and antique motorcycle auction will take place over April 28 to May 1, with a whopping 1750 motorcycles up for grabs. Held at the Las

Vegas Convention Centre, the scope of entries is breathtaking.

Most exciting is this 1950 Vincent Black Lightning, which was originally ordered by Danish sidecar racing champion David Axelson through the Copenhagen Vincent dealer Villy Egen and delivered on March 20, 1950.

It was fitted with a

Danish-made sidecar but in his second race, Axelson crashed heavily, killing his passenger, a friend. Axelson quit racing and the Lightning was stored in a chicken coop, making a brief return to the track, raced by a pal, then sold in 1965.

It was disassembled and remained in bits until 1998-99. It is reckoned to have only covered a few hundred miles at most in its entire lifetime. It’ll not be cheap… There are plenty more machines to suit various pockets though. View at www.mecum.com

?? ?? Just wow. This Black Lightning has full history from new and has covered negligible mileage.
