1947 Velocette KSS
DSV 491
Dad’s Mk II KSS was bought at the Stafford April auction in 2010, being one of two KSSs in the sale, with the other one actually being our preferred option, mainly owing to its original registration number. However, first choice was quickly bid over what we had agreed as a limit, with
DSV secured for £8280 including premium. There wasn’t much history available, only that it had been in its current ownership since 1999, the vendor, a Mr Ormonde, having acquired it from his brother, who had treated it to a ‘nut and bolt’ restoration in the winter of 1987/88.
Since being restored, it had been kept in dry storage, though it didn’t need much doing before it was on the road. It’s been largely vice-free, and we’ve all ridden it a fair bit. Our contributor Phil Turner borrowed it for the Festival of 1000 Bikes one year, plus numerous other friends have ridden it too.
This one has proved a worthy addition, with Dad having used it for many local miles, while it’s also been to every Irish National rally since 2011, one year ridden by my brother.
