Setting the Rekord straight

-

Loved the Garelli Tiger Cross test by Andy Westlake in the November 2021 issue. It took me right back to my early days on two wheels.

However, I must take issue with the statement that the Tiger Cross and Rekord mopeds were imported from 1973 to 1976. I know this to be wrong and they were imported almost as soon as the new law was introduced. How do I know? Well, I had a yellow Mk.1 Rekord, with pedals, which was first registered on April 24, 1972, as EHA 799K. In fact, does anyone know if it is still around? I’d love to know.

I cannot remember ever being bested by any other 50, with or without pedals. I had friends who bought other Rekords at the same time as me, some in the months prior to mine. Keep on testing these often overlooked, small machines.
