Excelling themselves

-

Just an encouraging and appreciative word or two from me regarding the October 2022 issue, if I may?

My friend Steve Wilson and photographer Gary Chapman on this occasion each excelled themselves, in my opinion, for the length and comprehensiveness, especially in Steve’s research and his usual addressing of the human element with regard to the Royal Enfield WD/CO article. Maybe timely as well in view of the brand’s surge to prominence and conspicuously high sales figures of late.

The other outstanding, if short, article, which particularly stimulated my appreciation and respect, is the one by Paul Guthrie on the pre-Second World

War racer, Jimmie Guthrie. Incidentally I seem to recall from reading the excellent biographical book by Paul that, surprisingly, the subject and the author are not related?

This again is down to the thorough and detailed research, especially including material from sources in Germany including Nazi-era ones. That’s besides Paul’s erudite writing style. I do hope that Paul’s attempts to locate the missing trophy awarded at the then Hohenstein-Erstthal Race Circuit in Saxony may bear fruit?

Meanwhile, I wish you the best.

Nigel Stennett-Cox, North Walsham, Norfolk.
