New director announced for Minack
THE Minack Theatre Trust has appointed a new director of the landmark outdoor theatre.
Rebecca Thomas, currently CEO and finance director of the Cornish Pirates Rugby Club, will step down from that role at the end of the current season and begin her new job at the Minack on June 1.
Rebecca will be taking over from Zoë Curnow, who is leaving the Minack after 17 years.
Rebecca grew up in Cornwall and attended Exeter University, where she gained an honours degree in mathematics with accounting.
She went on to qualify as a chartered accountant with Deloitte in London and Newcastle, and then worked for businesses in the retail, manufacturing and service sectors.
Having moved back to Cornwall from the North East, she joined the Pirates in 2010 as finance and business controller, was promoted to the board in 2018 and stepped up to become the chief executive officer and finance director in 2020.
She spent the next four years steering the team through Covid and other challenges, and will remain on the Pirates’ board as an advisory director.
Alongside her professional career Rebecca has performed on the Minack stage herself with the Redruth Amateur Operatic Society Trust, a society she joined at the age of 10 and of which she was treasurer for seven years.
She is also a member of Haarts Productions, performing in cabaret and specialised entertainment events in the county.
She said she was looking forward to the exciting challenge of leading one of Cornwall’s bestloved tourist attractions and theatres: “I feel extremely privileged to have the opportunity to take on this role at such an iconic venue, and one that holds great memories for me personally.
“The heritage and story of the Minack Theatre is something unique to our county and it’s such a special place for all who visit.
“I’m delighted to be joining the wonderful team there”.
Charles Sinclair, chair of the Minack Theatre Trust charity, said: “Rebecca joins us with a wealth of experience from running another famous Cornish institution, a business career and a passion for theatre.”
