Two-day jazz festival to be held

-

CORNWALL’S latest music festival is set to debut next month with a view to bringing top-class young jazz musicians to a tiny village.

The Mousehole Jazz Festival is a twoday event created by local resident Kevin O’Leary.

It will take place in the Solomon Browne Hall on May 17 and 18 and will feature multi-award-winning trumpeter, composer and bandleader Henry Spencer and New Zealand percussionist and composer Myele Manzanza as its headline acts.

The full line-up will include the Henry Spencer Band, with support from Tom Neale and Marcus Penrose, on Friday, May 17, and Myele Manzanza, with support from bassist Ewan Hastie and pianist Elchin Shirinov on the Saturday night.

“For me, not only is the festival a way for music-lovers to listen to and watch artists play live, but it’s also a way for young musicians to be given a stage for them to shine”, Kevin said.

“The idea is to create a platform for young jazz musicians in a part of the country where they may not necessarily normally play, benefitting both the players and those jazz fans who live in this far west part of the country.

“The idea is to launch the platform and then build on that in the coming years to a bigger three-day event over multiple venues, delivering opportunities for great artists and incredible music for the community and those who visit the area”.
