School given award in recognition of international work
»»A PRIMARY school in West Cornwall has received the British Council’s International School Award at intermediate level in recognition of its work bringing the world into the classroom.
The International School Award celebrates the achievements of schools around the country which do exceptional work in international education.
St Just Primary School’s international work includes twinning its classes with schools both nationally and internationally. A video made by Year 6 pupils about being twinned with a school in the United Arab Emirates was shown to delegates at the COP28 climate conference in Dubai in 2023 and it is aiming to attain full International School accreditation in 2024-25.
Headteacher Demelza Bolton said: “I am absolutely delighted that we have achieved the award in recognition of our work around raising the pupils’ awareness of not just their locality but the world around them. Giving our pupils the opportunity to demonstrate their awareness of global issues has been paramount to the school’s vision.”
Shannon West, head of UK Schools for the British Council, said: “St Just Primary School’s international work has earned the school well-deserved recognition.
“We are proud and delighted to work with this great school. Many thanks to everyone for all their commitment to developing international work and sharing excellent classroom practice and resources. This is enriching education for its pupils, and their excellent collaborative projects with partner schools overseas are bringing the world into their classrooms. Fostering an international dimension in the curriculum is at the heart of the British Council’s work with schools so that young people gain the cultural understanding and skills they need for life and work in today’s world”.
