Major shock as Flyers get the better of Steelers

-

FIFE FLYERS came from behind to produce one of the biggest shocks of the season so far.

A second period hattrick from former Calgary Flames draft pick Kris Hogg helped send the high- flying Sheff ield Steelers home pointless.

The 26-year-old leftwing, who played for Missouri Mavericks last season in the Central Hockey League, provided the inspiration with a straight treble.

The sides we r e deadlocked in a goalless first period but Steelers’ latest National Hockey League recruit Tom Sistito opened their account when he netted at 21.38.

It was British Columbiaborn Hogg who levelled less than two minutes later and he popped in his second after 32 minutes to put the home side ahead.

Sistito then took his first penalty on British soil and in the resulting powerplay Hogg completed his hattrick in the 39th minute.

The visitors pulled a goal back 10 minutes later through Jeff Legue but that was as close as they came.

Local hero Steven McA lpine completed the scoring late on to keep the points in Kirkcaldy.

However the Flyers fell 4-1 to the Edinburgh Capitals last night at Murrayfield.

Meanwhile, Mike Wirll kept his cool to earn Dundee CCS Stars a 2-1 penalty shot victory over determined Hull Stingrays on Tayside last night.

The Canadian- bor n winger slotted after his line-mate Sami Ryhanen had also scored in the nerve-jangling shootout.

Cale Tanaka missed and Janis Ozolins netted for Hull but Jereme Tendler failed to find the net, handing the two points to the Stars.

The result continued Hull’s depressing run of five straight defeats but it allowed Jeff Hutchins’ men to bounce back after their disappointment at Braehead Clan on Friday.
