He said: “It was so disappoint­ing to come away with nothing. It was a missed opportunit­y.

“We maybe eased off a bit after getting our second score and they punished us severely.

“If we had held our focus and concentrat­ion better until the interval it could have been a different game.

“Our mistakes gave them momentum and our defence at that stage was not the standard we expect at a time when you want to press home your advantage.

“We went in at half time with our tails between our legs — and there tails were up.

“Then we didn’t play all that well at the start of the second half.

“We had played some great rugby and created a couple of good tries but against a team like Northampto­n you cannot give anything or you will be under pressure.”

He only has five days to mentally and physically prepare his team for the crucial home tussle with Ulster.

His new injury doubts are Ruaridh Jackson ( hip), Sean Lamont (cheekbone) and Stuart Hogg (thigh). All three will be assessed today by Glasgow medics.

Saints skipper Dylan Hartley said Glasgow had made them battle every inch, adding: “We knew they would not just give us the result we wanted and we really had to dig deep to get back.”
