Newport’s second round tie against St James was the most attractive of the Scottish Amateur Cup fixtures and the game lived up to its pre-match billing, with both teams happy to settle for a 3-3 draw and a replay next week, writes Amateur.

With the majority of ties postponed the Saints moved their match to Carnoustie — a strategy which almost backfired.

Converted spot-kicks from Neil Strachan and Andrew Reid had given the Division 1 side a 2-1 lead after being in arrears.

But the James boys drew level before Reid headed home his second and Port’s third from a corner.

However, a late goal from Steve Martin earned Saints a replay.

Martin and Kevin Milne got the Premier side’s earlier strikes.

NCR travelled north with Breadalbane their hosts, and they returned with an accomplished 4-0 victory thanks to goals from Sean Tucker, Billy Buchanan, John Dandy (pen) and Owen Neave.

AHSFP had home advantage in their cup tie derby against Arbroath Harp.

Although defeated, the Division 2 side can be content with their two-goal loss to a Premier side.

Norman Sharp and birthday boy Greg Morrison were High’s marksmen.

Invergowrie was another that got the better of Perthshire opposition, winning 7-2 against Bridge of Earn.

Scott McGrath (pen), Michael Easson, Nairn Brunton, Ally Patterson (2) and an own goal made up their tally.

Replicating Gowrie’s scoreline were Inchture, which saw Methven exit, while Dundee College was inflicting marginally less pain on Newtyle Hearts, running out 5-2 victors.

Arbroath CSC found the net five times against Hawkhill Athletic, and there were also round three berths for Lowson Utd against Kelso (8-0) and Harris Academy against Dundee University (3-2).

Monifieth Tayside and Meigle Vics produced the highest scoring tie, which went the way of Tayside 9-4.

In the other Scottish ties Kirriemuir Youth and Carnoustie Athletic and Strathmore Athletic and Logie Harp drew.

In the only league encounter Michelin Athletic beat Edzell Athletic 5-4 in Division 2.
