Bungee jump to raise funds for Cally Simpson

-

AN ANGUS man left devastated by Cally Simpson’s accident has organised a bungee jump to raise funds for the tot.

Gavin Rushton, 23, of Arbroath, will take the plunge above a dramatic gorge at Killiecrankie over the River Garry on July 26.

The bungee jump is the latest in a series of fundraising events taking place across Tayside to help support Cally’s family following her accident.

Cally remains in intensive care at Barcelona’s Sant Joan de Deu children’s hospital after being pulled unconscious from a swimming pool on June 23.

The four-year-old had been on holiday at the Villamarina Hotel in Salou where dad Steven and 11 family members were staying for a week.

Gavin said: “I was devastated when I heard what had happened to Cally.

“I just want to do something to help the family.

“Steven’s my best friend and I just feel helpless.

“I can’t get out there to be with them so this is the next best thing.”

Gavin said this will be his first-ever bungee jump and he is hoping to raise as much money as possible for Cally’s family.

Sponsorship forms can be found in Arbroath at William Hill, Round O Fish Bar, Tesco, Morrisons, Keptie Bakery, Peggy’s Takeaway, Westport Bar and Jumping Joeys.

Dad Steven was at the toilet when the accident happened, having left Cally with eight relatives at the pool area.

An ambulance arrived and Cally received CPR and was breathing again before being transferred by air ambulance to the specialist unit of the Barcelona children’s hospital.

Steven and Cally’s mum Kate remain at the child’s bedside and a Facebook page is raising funds to ensure the family can stay in Spain until she gets better.
