Young people’s care home receives good report
A HOME providing care for young people in Angus has received a good report from inspectors.
Kinnaird Street Young Person’s Unit in Arbroath was given an unannounced visit by Lynn Ellison of the Care Inspectorate on May 15 and the body has now findings.
Qualities of care and support, environment, staffing and management and leadership were all graded as “very good”.
Ms Ellison said: “Managers need to ensure that the Care Inspectorate
published
its is notified of significant events and incidents in accordance with guidance.
“The service had experienced high sickness levels until recently, much of which was directly related to aggression and violence by young people.
“In response to these issues, managers had placed an increased emphasis on staff support and implemented a pilot extended health improvement scheme. This, along with changes in the resident group, had been beneficial.”
The unit, run by Angus Council, is a care home with places for up to six children and young people, mainly between the ages of 12 and 18.
It has recently been limiting the number of residents to four or five in an emergency.
Admission to the home is usually on a planned basis but emergency stays can be authorised by the manager or service manager.
The Care Inspectorate regulates care services in Scotland.
