Drunk victimised terrified youngsters

-

A HOWLING Fife drunk followed his frightened 10-year-old neighbour to school during a six-year reign of terror against the boy’s family.

Cupar mother-of-three Jaqui McSporran called the police to her home hundreds of times over the years as the alcoholic carried out a catalogue of intimidating and bizarre behaviour on her doorstep.

The man, who we have been asked not to name, would return home drunk at all times of the day and night, sometimes howling like a werewolf or pressing his nose against Jaqui’s window, often in an attempt to goad her husband Alan into a confrontation.

On two occasions the couple’s eldest son Jamie, 13, then in Primary 5, was followed to school by the man, who once tried to grab the youngster’s backpack.

“Jamie’s teacher phoned me to say it had happened,” said Jaqui, who has two other children, Lennon, 5 and toddler Caelan.

“He was terrified, so you can imagine how I was feeling. It all happened before 9am in the morning and he was drunk at the time.”

The McSporrans had lived in Cupar’s Balgarvie Crescent for around four years before the alcoholic moved in next door.

From then on they were forced to contact the police two or three times a week as the incidents stacked up.

Jaqui said: “The whole thing has dragged on for ages — it’s been a long drawn out process.

“It could go on all night ... it wouldn’t matter if it was 3pm or 3am. He’d bang on the kids’ windows or try to get into the shed.

“He was constantly trying to provoke a reaction from my husband. A lot of this was going on last year while I was heavily pregnant.”

The man was given an ASBO but went on to breach its terms. The McSporrans secured a move to a larger house in the town last year and Jaqui was delighted to end the nightmare.
